In the air near Nazca, Peru

I was scanning some slides I took in 1988 of the Nazca lines in Peru. I remember being fascinated by the incidental lines as well: waterways, tire tracks, roads. They were just as interesting.

About the Artist

Leda Black lives in the Washington, D.C. area. Her primary medium is digital imagery printed by high resolution archival inkjet. Most of her recent work is part of the Female Power Project, started in 2015. Previously she concentrated on book arts—writing, printing, and binding limited edition artists books under the imprint Palabra Press. This is a "that's a wrap!" carousel post. 1. Wedne This is a "that's a wrap!" carousel post. 1. Wednesday I loaded out the last of the bulky stuff from my @downtowndcholidaymarket booth (dashboard still life with Vendor Access pass). 2. Someone brought their goat to the market! (Cameo by the "Forbidden Words" hoodie, they sold out!) 3. Victorian Christmas card to make the goat pic relevant for a post on Xmas day 4. The obligatory selfie of the tired and aging Creatrix ("yes, this is all my work") 5. The point of sale report showing the visit of the tipsy shoppers. 6. The back of the aforementioned "Forbidden Words" hoodie. They want you to hide these words so let's just go out wearing them instead! Should I make more of these? Every size is a little different so it takes a long time to print them on my small heat press, but I was getting the hang of it. I love doing this market and it's exhausting and I couldn't do it without help. My thanks go to my crew, Rose, Maria, Tony, and another Tony that last day. Thanks go to @themakersshow and @downtowndcbid for building and running this temporary village in the heart of #washingtondc It is a big production! Thanks Tiz for taking my needs seriously and accommodating some of my sensory issues! Many many thanks to my customers who make this project possible. I believe there were at least two dozen visitors who told me they make a point to find my booth every year, and many more tell me how important they think my work is. I am not going to lie, sales were down from last year. People don't have money to spend or they choose to spend on easy gifts like cute things with cats on them. So many people who used to work downtown got thrown out with the doge, and aren't shopping on their lunch break anymore. Also three bad weather days. Furthermore, I remain committed to producing as much as I can in places with worker protections and less extractive processes, but this puts pressure on costs. I make fewer but better things. I will continue this work in the face of rising political and personal precarity because it is the only thing I have found to make some money that makes me happy enough. At this point, I need to do something that is worth doing. Wear Social Proof.

Last open studio of 2025 is tonight. Last weekend Downtown starts today. Come support local makers, we are the preponderance Downtown. We depend on you! 🎄🎁💪💃❤️ (I guess I don't do boutique when I have to set up in a shack. It feels less chaotic in person, maybe?)

This coming weekend, The Female Power Project wil This coming weekend, The Female Power Project will have a small presence at Sparkle Mart in Greenbelt, MD. This is a juried art and craft festival on Saturday, December 7 (10:00-5:00) and Sunday the 8th (10:00-4:00). Sarah and Rose will be staffing because I will be at the Downtown DC Holiday Market. I will have the buttons, 8x10 prints, and a few shirt designs (including the smash hit, A Girl With A Book in toddler, kids, and unisex adult sizes). Address: 25 Crescent Road, Greenbelt, MD 20770. Shop local!
